AN AUDIO DOCUMENTARY

ABOUT REFUGEES IN

SCOTLAND

ABOUT

About the Documentary

What do a smiley guy from Salvador and a kind man from a country in the Middle East have in common?

They both live in Glasgow and left their home countries and loved ones behind to save their lives less than one year ago. After having to answer sensitive questions and bringing to life painful memories thousands of times with different institutions and individuals behind desks from the beginning of their journeys to their arrival in Scotland, Paul and “Mohammed” told us in this short audio documentary about who they really are, apart from being just a refugee in a foreign land.

Having to leave one’s home country will always be a very important part of anyone's life, specifically if there is trauma. However, “Beneath the Surface” tries to uncover through their voice how they feel about their current status and what their future will be after getting their status in Scotland. This documentary also uncovered many other elements that are usually relegated to the background but that are as equally deep and important in someone’s life and identity.
